Applied Connective’s Ed Knott (company president) and Jarod Dendinger (business relations) were invited onto the Chamber Connection Podcast hosted by Katie Walmsley of the Ord Area Chamber of Commerce in June to discuss cyber security and best practices business should be following to protect themselves from falling prey to “bad actors” in today’s threat-saturated environment.
As we become increasingly dependent on our devices, both personally and professionally, the need for at least a basic understanding and awareness of basic threats grows ever-more critical.
The two veteran IT experts touched on a variety of social engineering & cyber attacks and tactics, offered practical advice, and ended by sharing some free resources for listeners in the fast-paced 23.5-minute program.
“The biggest thing any business owner can do is educate themselves more…90% of the incidents that occur are typically attributed to some sort of user error,” said Dendinger.
“Being familiar with the difference types of [scams] that are out there. There’s a layered approach when it comes to security, and just at a high level understanding what those layers of security look like and then asking yourself, ‘Do I have these in place and is it worth my time and money as a business owner to invest in some of those security protocols.'”
