Twenty-year-old tech company expands into Lincoln
Applied Connective to put down roots in the capital city
Lincoln, NE | SEPT 2023 — Applied Connective Technologies, a Nebraska-based managed technology services provider (MTSP), has announced that they are expanding into Lincoln with the opening of a fourth location in the Haymarket District this fall. This new location is in addition to the company’s long-time headquarters in Albion and offices in Norfolk and Columbus.
Company President Ed Knott co-founded Applied Connective in 2004—following X years of IT experience at Lincoln’s Fiserv—along with now-retired Tom Krings. Technology has evolved almost beyond recognition since 2004, and the same can be said of Applied Connective’s service offering.
What started out as a two-man operation selling commercial phones is now a full-service MTSP of more than 50 experts spanning virtually every facet of business technology. As their website claims, “with experts in every area of technology, our service offering is robust and, quite frankly, a bit of a mouthful” with most staff belonging to the IT & Cyber Security division but with strong divisions also dedicated to commercial phone systems, physical security (surveillance systems, door access control, etc.), audio/video and infrastructure.
The past four years in particular have brought about substantial change for the award-winning tech company, including but not limited to office expansions, new locations, an onslaught of additional staff, streamlining of services, and two significant acquisitions of Megavision and Connecting Point (in January and May of this year, respectively).
But Knott insists that what may look to some like explosive success has rather been the result of a consistent company-wide commitment to unrivaled customer service and dedication to making their customers their most secure, efficient and profitable with the right technologies. He adds that, as with all businesses, they’ve naturally made strategic changes to their service offering as technology has evolved in order to better serve the needs of their hundreds of customers in finance, healthcare, small business, schools, county government and more throughout the Midwest.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled to be here,” says Knott. “There are a number of things that make Lincoln the right place for us right now, and we’re excited to take our company to the next level with talent and partnerships we’re developing. Lincoln is where I got my start in IT, met my wife, bought my first house, so things really feel like they’re coming full circle a bit.”
Knott goes on to explain that, although a physical office space in the vicinity isn’t necessary for an IT company to serve their customers—case in point, Applied Connective provides ongoing managed IT services to customers in every corner of the state as well as in Chicago, Minneapolis, Kansas City and more—they nevertheless felt strongly that Lincoln is where they ought to put down roots and open their fourth office.
“Due to the nature of managed services, nearly all of what we do can be accomplished remotely after initial installs,” he continues. “In fact, we often quip to our customers that we’re their ‘in-house’ IT team, except they don’t have to save us a donut or a parking space. Still, as a company built on what we refer to as ‘Nebraskan values,’ we feel it’s very fitting to have an office space in our state’s capital.”
It’s true; their website bills Applied Connective as a “truly Nebraskan” company operating on the following key pillars: “Have integrity. Work hard. Give back. Throw the bones. You know the drill.”
Knott concludes, “We work with clients throughout the Midwest and many in the Lincoln area, so although we don’t technically need to be nearby, it’s nice to plant a flag here and be able to rub elbows more often with those we serve virtually all day, every day.”
